In a story that has touched the hearts of many, a dog named Diva, missing for two months, was reunited with her owner after being found an astonishing 1,200 miles away from home.

This remarkable reunion was made possible by the dedication of two Indiana-based veterinary technicians, Maggie Thornberry and Elizabeth Daniele, who went above and beyond to ensure Diva’s safe return.

Diva, a mixed-breed rescue, went missing from her home in Colorado Springs, Colorado, leaving her owner, Maria Rodriguez, heartbroken.

After weeks of searching with no success, Maria began to lose hope—until a good Samaritan in Indiana found Diva wandering near the road and brought her to the Oak Knoll Veterinary Clinic in Rolling Prairie.

Veterinary technicians Thornberry and Daniele scanned Diva’s microchip, which revealed her identity and confirmed that she had been missing for two months.

When contacted, Rodriguez was shocked and overjoyed. “I didn’t think I was going to see her again because she’d been gone for two months,” Rodriguez shared with PEOPLE.

Understanding the significance of the situation, Thornberry and Daniele volunteered to transport Diva partway to her owner. The duo drove eight hours to meet Rodriguez and her fiancé, Charles Green, at a dog park in Kansas City, Missouri.

Diva, initially anxious and reserved during her time at the clinic, transformed into a different dog upon seeing her owner.

A video of the reunion captured the emotional moment as Diva ran to Rodriguez, tail wagging furiously, and showered her with affection.

Someone brought in this sweet stray to be scanned for a microchip. We contacted the owners and told them we had found their dog. They said their pup had been missing for two months and they would come and get her immediately. We told them where we were located in Indiana and we would wait for them. They said they were from COLORADO!!!! We decided we would leave at 5am the next morning, travel halfway to Kansas City, and unite this pup with her owners. This was such a heartwarming experience for both @Elizabeth Daniele and me. We absolutely love our jobs and are so thankful for Oak Knoll Vet Clinic for giving us this opportunity. Dr. Szuba, our office manager Josh, and all of our wonderful coworkers make moments like this possible. We would do it a thousand times again. These are the stories that remind us why we do what we do. Welcome home, Diva <3 #fyp #dogsoftiktok #reunited #vetmed

“It was a super fulfilling experience,” Thornberry, who is applying to veterinary school, reflected. “The vet field can be emotionally draining and incredibly hard at times, but it’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do.”

Rodriguez expressed her gratitude to Thornberry, Daniele, and everyone involved in Diva’s safe return. “Diva remembered all of us—she knew exactly who her humans were. She’s proof to me that dogs don’t forget their people.”

Diva is now back home and thriving, enjoying her familiar surroundings with her family. “Just seeing her again, I still can’t believe that she’s here,” Rodriguez said. “I cried and prayed, and she’s finally home.”

The heartwarming reunion, which gained widespread attention on TikTok after Thornberry shared the story, serves as a reminder of the importance of microchipping pets and the dedication of animal care professionals who go the extra mile for the love of animals.
